How far along: 37 weeks
Baby size: Lil Ziggy is about 6.5 lbs and almost 20 inches long.
Belly: The phrase that comes to mind is “comically spherical”. Ignore the hair. I work from home now 🙂
Clothes: I like this work-from-home thing, and here’s why: I’m still in my pjs! I’ll put on real clothes for tonight’s Ash Wednesday service, but then it’s right back into the sweats. This is the most comfortable I’ve been my entire pregnancy, clothes-wise.
Movement: I feel like Lil’ Ziggy has moved down ever so slightly, so I’m not getting as many jabs to the ribs. Yesterday I was a little worried because Zig had a rather lazy day and wasn’t moving around as much, but he’s been squirming up a storm today.
Food cravings: Unhealthy food. Because I’m at home now, we went out and got a bunch of healthy breakfast, lunch and snack food. Now, all I want is a shawarma from OJ’s and Cadbury mini-eggs!
Labor signs: Nothing really. The odd cramping Braxton Hicks contraction, and more swelling in my feet and apparently face, according to my nurse practitioner. Other than that, I’m just movin’ along the no-labour road.
What I miss: Wearing dress pants and shoes… NOT!
Preparing for birth: If you follow my Instagram, you can see that I’ve been doing a LOT of closet-cleaning and laundry. I slashed my master bedroom’s closet in half and washed ALL my cloth diapers.
I also took pictures of my cloth diapers as I plan to start reviewing them once the wee one arrives.
I FINALLY heard back from my OB‘s office, and I have my first appointment with him on Feb. 24. Hell, I could deliver the kid by then, but it’s not like I’ve been waiting for them to assign an appointment date for 3 weeks or anything. Oh wait, I have.
I’m very disappointed that my town has only two OBs, when over 100 babies are born here every month. I’m lucky and thankful that I haven’t had any complications that would necessitate closer monitoring by an OB, but I’m still sad and frustrated that this is the level of care our government deems acceptable.
This is a Canada-wide issue, though, not just specific to Alberta or Fort McMurray. The women in my March 2015 birth group on Facebook all seem to have similar complaints about their OBs as what I hear here – ridiculously long waits, inconsistent care, etc. The only thing that sets us apart is that they’re actually able to get appointments before 38 weeks gestation.
Anyway, it’s another week down and we’re getting closer and closer to meeting Lil’ Ziggy on the other side of my belly. I can’t wait!

Almost there!! Wow, I remember those days, especially around 37 weeks I was so ready. The plus is that it seems like you go into over drive getting stuff done, so baby always comes home to a clean an organized house. You look great by the way, congrats!! Thanks for sharing! #shinebloghop

Thank you for the kind words, Brittany :). We still have a lot of organizing to do, so hopefully the wee one doesn’t decide to come early!

That’s nice you get to work from home! That’s my biggest qualm right now is still having to dress in business clothes. I don’t have enough maternity clothes and don’t want to buy more for these last weeks. It seems pointless!
The healthcare thing sounds like a nightmare. There are tons of OBs around me, but the one I chose just happens to be SUPER busy. I wait an hour+ every time I go to see them. It wastes a lot of my time. I also see a different doctor every time so no one even knows who I am or what is up with me. It’s annoying.
What cloth diapers are you going with?

Working from home is so nice, I’m lucky I work in a job that can be done remotely if need be. I was certainly getting to the same point with maternity work clothes. I only had two pairs of pants to alternate throughout the week, and my assortment of belly-friendly sweaters was rapidly dwindling. I think I’m even done with maternity jeans now!
I think I speak for all women in Fort McMurray when I say we would LOVE to only wait for an hour or two for an OB appointment. Generally, if our appointments aren’t the very first ones of the day, we have to take the whole day off, bring a book and a phone charger. And you’re right – seeing a different doctor each time definitely leads to inconsistent levels of care.
I am trying out several different brands of CDs. I have the Bummis Cotton prefold infant pack, a bunch of Kawaii pockets, both newborn and one-size (they were sold in an economical multi-style package), some BumGenius in 4.0 and Elemental, AMP pockets, AppleCheeks pockets and FunkyFluff pockets. I also have a mix of natural fibres and microfibre, but I have a feeling I’m going to be switching a lot of my microfibre inserts out for the cotton or bamboo.
