It’s Christmas in Boothopia!

12/26/14 | Cooking and Baking, Holidays

*Note* This post was supposed to be published last night, but my computer decided to not cooperate and I couldn’t upload any pictures until today. Technology!

Merry Christmas, Internet!

It’s Christmas here in Boothopia (and everywhere), and it’s undoubtedly the last “quiet” Christmas we’ll have for a long time (or ever).

We started the day with bacon and eggs, and proceeded to exchange gifts. Chris got me a lovely new bathrobe, it’s so soft and luxurious (plus it’s purple, my favourite colour!). I gifted him the original Monopoly game.

Even with it just being Chris and I, I still ended up a little bit behind schedule with all the phone calls, Skype chats and Face Times with friends and family. Thankfully we tend to eat late anyway, so this isn’t wildly out of character for us.

Behold our festive table:

That glorious bird there (or pieces thereof) is a Hutterite chicken, smothered in butter, garlic and herbs. I have several more pounds of it to make into stock and soup.

We also have some maple sugar acorn squash, mashed potatoes and brussels sprouts.

And even though it didn’t get stuffed, this stuffing is a must-have at Christmastime.

Chris had to have his copious amounts of cranberry sauce. I’m more a gravy girl myself, but I’ll turn any potential leftovers into cranberry cheesecake squares or something.

And for dessert, I made a pecan pie using this recipe. I was a little worried about the crust as I don’t normally make it from scratch, but I think it turned out fairly well.

It was scrumptious, though it looked nothing like the picture on the original recipe.

And Sophie had such an exciting day, she just laid there for most of dinner.

The rest of our weekend will be spent searching for boxing week deals on baby items, and cleaning up the place. You can’t tell because I zoomed in, but our condo is more or less a disaster right now. I should be lying with my feet on a pile of pillows, but it never seems to work out that way.

Merry (belated) Christmas to you all! Enjoy those leftovers!

Monica

Merry Christmas. Your dinner looks delicious. Your pecan pie and the crust looks like a pie pro made it. Almost into single digits. So exciting for you both xox
